1999 SuperBowl report
The WHOSEYOURDADDIES repeat as BFFL Champions by defeating the
upstart Spoilers 88-72 in highest scoring BBFL Championships ever.
Tuesday, Jan 2, 1999.
After last's years one point victory in the Super Bowl, who would have thought that Greg could pull out a repeat with another victory this season. Entering the playoffs as the 4th place team, no one expected this him to win 2 playoff games in a row. Here was the trophy (we do have a trophy?) winning line-up, that produced 88 pts, good for 2nd best score in the entire league in 1999!
QB Rich Gannon 23 Fantasy Points 3 td's, 324 passing yards
RB Curtis Martin 14 Fantasy Points 1 td, 158 yds rushing
RB Robert Smith 6 Fantasy Points 1 td, 97 rushing yds.
WR Marvin Harrison 0 Fantasy Points
WR Jimmy Smith 9 Fantasy Points 0 td's, 165 yds receiving
TE Wessley Walls 16 Fantasy Points 2 td's, 88 receiving yds.
K Todd Peterson 11 Fantasy Points 3 Feild Goals, one good for 5 Fan pts at 45 yds.
DT Minnesota Vikings 9 Fantasy Points 7 sacks, 1 int, 1 fum recovery
A great effort was turned in by the 2nd place Spoilers, who managed 72 points in a losing effort. This was the high score for the Spoilers in 1999, good for 5th highest in the league.
QB Steve Beuerlein 35 Fantasy Points 5 td's, 322 passing yards, but not quite enough
RB Marshall Faulk 12 Fantasy Points 1 receiving and 1 rushing td.
Mike Alstott 6 Fantasy Points 1 td.
WR Tim Brown 5 Fantasy Points 122 yds receiving
WR Derrick Mays 0 Fantasy Points
TE Roland Williams 0 Fantasy Points
K Gary Anderson 6 Fantasy Points 1 fg, 3 pat's
DT Detroit Lions 8 Fantasy Points 5 sacks, 2 int, 1 fum recovery
After the game was over a stunned and surprised Coach of the Spoilers was quoted in the locker room ,"I can't freakin' believe that I scored 72 points and still lost the game. Your guys were awesome, Greg!"
The always humble Greg had congratulations for the Spoilers who came from 8th place in week 5 to almost win the Super Bowl, "Bill, One heck of a game. Don't think I ever remember a title game with such a high score. I think my saving graces were that Faulk came out in the first half of his game and that Gannon didn't throw any touchdowns to Brown.
It's hard to imagine that a loss in week 15 to John and I wouldn't have even made the playoffs. This was definitely an exciting season and should make BFFL 2000 another great season."
In other news the regular season champs the Maruders defeated the Kings of Nothing 60-56 to win the Cereal Bowl. After high hopes for a first time Championship, the Coach of the Maraduers were excited about next year,"What a finish! Greg....you definitely peaked at the right time.......congratulations on your repeat as the BFFL champ. I think this had to be the most active and most exciting year since I've been playing. I thought Bill was out of it early in the season and he did a great job of putting his team on the map. I thought I was cruising to the title game and
look what happenned. I had 90 one week and 25 a couple weeks before that. In reality, the average of those two scores (58) was more normal for me.
Even though I didn't win the big one this year (wait until next year), I discovered a plethora of new players to remember for next year and I can't wait for the next draft. Finishing in first place gives me a load of confidence going into next year. I thought this would be the craziest year the NFL would ever see and I was right. Imagine the BFFL you could put together with injured players, alone.......unbelievable.
Maybe next year I can bring The BFFL Times out of retirement.
also....to Greg and Steve..... you guys put a lot of your spare time into this thing ...... I'm sure its a pain in the ass, at times, so, muchos gracias."
The Coach of the Kings of Nothing could not be reached for comment. After having a shot at the regular season title in week 15, only to lose the last 3 games and finish in 4th place, you could imagine why Steve was not speaking to the press.
